Batman Batman Batman! …and other things too

Quick rundown of my life as of late:

I spent the whole day Saturday excited, anticipating the movie. Saw The Dark Knight around 10:20. It was intense. Amazing. The pressure mounted, Heath Ledger was phenomenal as the Joker, and the whole thing was bliss. I stuck my head out the car window the whole ride home listening to some Mogwai. The moon was almost full, and the air was cool. It was a beautiful night.

Between then, I got some writing done late at nights. Before I started writing this book, I wrote a chapter called Violet Skies that I liked at the time. That inspired the rest of the story… and I just rewrote that a few nights ago. I’m not sure, in the whole, if it still feels quick as shiny or magical or whatever you’d like to call it, but the story as a whole still feels exciting. Being this late through it, where there’s mere weeks, a couple of months at the most, to finish it, that’s pretty great news. I’m on Chapter 37 of about 49… it’s getting better every day.

Last night, I saw two documentaries on Batman… one was on his technology, the other on his psychology. The technology one had some cool things to say about the designs for the Batmobile, Batpod, his utility belt from both the comics and the movies. I’m not really going to geek out about it here, but it was interesting enough that I couldn’t turn it off. The psychology one was also pretty interesting. They talked about his psychological motivation, and the personification of various psychological disorders as shown in his villains - The Riddler is the narcissist, Two-Face has a dissociative disorder, The Joker is… well, a blend of psychosis, a twisting mess of psychopathology and psychopathy (those are two different things there.) It was interesting too.

Today, I saw The Dark Knight again. It wasn’t as exciting as the first time, but it was still a great movie. I’m debating now on bleaching my hair later tonight, wondering if I want to dye it later too. And I think I’m going to see The X-Files movie on Friday.

All in all, things have been treating me well lately. This relationship between life and I, maybe it isn’t a total failure after all.
