Query Letter

Dear Agent Person,

Nineteen year old Adam just failed a suicide attempt. He wants to reconnect with the life he tried to leave behind, but his father hardly speaks anymore, his mother abuses painkillers and his young sister Evelyn last saw him bleeding on the floor of his bedroom with a gun to his head. Now his only hope is a young, compassionate psychologist named Richard White, but their prepaid appointments are running out fast.

Then one day, Adam falls desperately in love with Cherith, a quirky teenage girl from the waiting room. When he learns she has cancer, he starts to experience vivid nightmares. Her condition declines, and Adam’s dreams change along with her. He slips from a purgatory netherworld made of lost souls and dead stars to the radiant beauty of space and the violet skies and red grass blades of what could be heaven. Adam’s torn between dreams and reality, but all he really wants is to see Evelyn again and keep a promise he made to Cherith on Valentine’s night: that nothing, not even death, can keep them from being together forever. He just may find his dreams are the answer he needs.

VALENTINE is a work of literary fiction of approximately 105,000 words. I’m a longtime reader of your helpful and funny blog.

The complete manuscript is available upon request. Thank you for your time and consideration!

Sincerely,
Josh Everett Ryan
